The Sacrament of Holy Communion

The sacrament of Holy Communion is celebrated at Water of Life every Sunday by the command and invitation from our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ: "do this often in remembrance of me."  We believe that when we partake we are receiving bread and wine along with the real presence of the body and blood of Christ for the forgiveness of sins.  We believe this because of Christ's words: "take and eat, this is my body; and "take and drink, this is my blood."  We do not have the knowledge or ability to fully understand these words, but we hold on to them as they are trusting in His promises that what He says is true.  Holy Communion is both a community and unity meal.  Faith holds on to these truths Christ has given to us: 1) An individual must first be willing to "examine themselves" (1 Cor. 11:28) being repentant of all sins in their life; 2) recognize that the real presence of the body and blood of Jesus is truly present in, with, and under the bread and wine (1 Cor. 10:16-19; 1 Cor. 11:29) with the words given by Jesus ("this is my body, this is my blood").  Whoever has been instructed in the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod's understanding of the Lord's Supper is welcome to partake.  Our practice is considered "close" communion which means members of an LCMS congregation are welcome to commune at this altar.  If you have any questions or concerns, please speak to the Pastor before the service.
